Peplink Balance 5000 EC 40G is an enterprise SD-WAN core router built for high-traffic campuses, large enterprises, and data centers that need massive multi-WAN capacity and resilient site connectivity. It is rated for 70Gbps router throughput and supports SpeedFusion VPN throughput of 30Gbps (both No Encryption and 256-bit AES), giving you headroom for secure, high-bandwidth inter-site networks.
Peplink Balance 5000 EC 40G designed for flexible WAN/LAN builds, it provides 6–8 (2.5GE) Ethernet WAN ports and 3–9 (2.5GE) Ethernet LAN ports, with WAN/LAN role assignment configurable in the web admin. For fiber uplinks and backbone connectivity, the 40G model supports 4–8 (25G SFP28) WAN and 4–8 (25G SFP28) LAN, plus 1–2 (40G QSFP+) WAN and 1–2 (40G QSFP+) LAN.
“EC” stands for Edge Computing. Peplink Balance 5000 EC 40G includes internal storage for edge workloads (2× 1TB SSD) and supports running applications (including Python), Docker containers, and KVM hypervisor—useful when you want to push compute closer to users and reduce latency.
For SD-WAN resilience, SpeedFusion features include Hot Failover, Smoothing, Bandwidth Bonding, and SpeedFusion Connect (CarePlan includes 2.5TB/year complimentary SpeedFusion Connect usage data). It also supports High Availability, Drop-In Mode, and LAN Bypass for Internet traffic from LAN 1→WAN 3 and LAN 2→WAN 4 to help preserve connectivity paths during power events.
At scale, it supports up to 4,000 SpeedFusion VPN peers, 800 IPsec tunnels, and up to 1,000 PPTP/L2TP/OpenVPN users. It also supports 2,048 VLANs (802.1q) with inter-VLAN routing, plus operational features like Netflow, LACP NIC bonding, jumbo frames, and InControl 2 cloud management (up to 2,000 controlled APs/switches).
Hardware-wise, it is a 1U rack-mount appliance (17.2 × 25.6 × 1.73 in / 438 × 650 × 44 mm) weighing 24 kg, with dual hot-swap power supply support.
